Climate & Growing Conditions

Rainfall averages around 1086mm per year in the Hills Shire council district with the wettest 3 months being January, February and March when hot and humid conditions create afternoon storms which roll in to the area from the Blue Mountains and further west. Temperature extremes range from around 42deg in summer to just above freezing overnight in the dead of winter. Frost around the Hills district is rare but does occur from time to time in certain areas especially around Dural. Rain is more reliable and temperatures slightly more moderate in The Hills compared to Camden, Penrith & Richmond areas.

Select plants from Zone 3 and Zone 4 when designing your garden in The Hills district.

Garden & Landscape Design DA Requirements

Most Development applications require a landscape plan to be submitted along with other documents. These plans are required to be prepared by qualified landscape architects, designers, or horticulturists. Contact us at Dapple Landscape Designs to learn more or for a free garden design quote.
