Aeoniums are natives of Madeira, the Canary Islands and North Africa. Aeonium 'Zwartkop' is a succulent that develops a shrubby habit with rosettes of leaves that, given a hot, full sun position, can turn almost black. It also has small, bright yellow star-like flowers that appear in spring. For best results grow Black Rose in an open sunny position in areas that does not get heavy frosts. Water regularly during hot weather, especially when young, as the leaves will tend to towards wilting. They can also be used effectively planted in containers or even as a feature plant.
